Unlock the door to mental happiness
Have you experienced being so happy from within, (happiness in the heart, soul and yes even in the mind) that your energy levels were so high? And those bursts of energy led to you being incredibly productive? Or shall we say, more productive than usual…
Mental happiness is not just happiness from the heart but happiness in thought such there is contentment and peace of mind. Worry, fear and regret fade away. When we are mentally happy, then very little can affect us.
Happy thoughts, not just for the future, but the thought and feeling of “I am happy now” and actually feeling it, makes you feel alive and productive. The reason I am speaking about mental happiness and didn’t just speak of happiness, is because when we speak or think about the emotion of happiness, we more often see it as an emotion of the heart. But what about the happiness and contentment of mind? We can be happy in heart yet feel deep depression and mental instability due to this. But what can be done to ensure mental happiness?
An example of emotional happiness yet mental unhappiness would be something like, seeing your friend or family member whom you love so dearly, you hug and embrace that person, your heart feels tremendous happiness, but your mind is worried about your unpaid bills and how you are going to manage through the month… That means you may feel happy in heart but anxious and unstable in mind, which means you are mentally unhappy.
How do we unlock the door to mental happiness? How do we stop the mind from worrying about the future or having reoccurring thoughts of past events? From books I have read to spiritual practice such as meditations, I can just say that focusing on the present moment is key to quieten the mind. Focusing on the present time takes away reoccurring thoughts of the past and worry and anxiety of the future.
A few years ago I found myself feeling saddened and depressed of how things I wanted or worked hard for, just didn’t happen and I felt anxious and worried as to what more I could do, to make my goals and dreams happen in the future. I felt as though time was just moving and my life was stagnant regardless of what I ‘did’ to make it move. This caused a lot of mental and emotional unhappiness. And while talking to a friend of mine, he encouraged me to read the book The Power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle. As the book title suggests, there is immense power in the present moment. When we focus on the present moment, when thoughts of the past seize to exist, and thoughts of worry and anxiety of the future seize to exist and we only focus on the now, the present moment, then there is contentment. Then mental happiness becomes easier and effortless. Then we also ‘allow’ life to happen as it is happening instead of being drown in the thoughts of either past or future, and mental happiness becomes easier.
I would suggest you to read the book, The Power of Now and also take one step further to mental and emotional happiness and contentment. You can also follow Eckhart Tolle on Instagram on here.
