Create your everyday getaway at home!
Spontaneous getaways, holidays and exotic trips overseas can be exciting and adventurous. But it is sometimes just a dream for those who are stuck in the daily routine of work, home, rest, cook and repeat. And while we work hard to give ourselves and loved ones the best life possible, unfortunately taking a much-needed vacation might be out of the budget.
So. How can you take short breaks from your routine life without breaking the bank?
Declutter your personal space!
Your bedroom is the one place that you can use as a spontaneous getaway to feel reenergized, revitalized and ready to take on the world again. This space needs to be as comfortable as possible to give you a Zen, calm and relaxed mood.
Change your beddings/curtains to warm, light and clean colours like a mixture of white, greens, yellows and shades of blue (depending on your preferred colours). Clean out your cupboards and make sure your clothing is always neatly folded away. A tidy room makes one automatically feel organized, which in turn makes us feel calm and happy.
Get additional cupboard space or pack your personal items away so that there is no ‘mess’ at all in your room.
Decorating your space!
Add a side table, or clean out your existing side table to place items such as scented candles, incense sticks and your favourite book.
Get a mini portable sound system and add relaxation music such as the sound of water, rain, or the singing bowls!
Add a side lamp shade to your personal space to create a warm, soft and more relaxed feel.
Spoiling yourself!
You can also purchase a foot spa machine or buy a square shaped bucket and treat your feet to a home spa whenever needed.
Add warm water to your foot spa machine, or bucket, a teaspoon of Epsom salt, and add a few drops of lavender scented oils before soaking your feet for a good 15 to 20 minutes. This will help to relieve pain and tension in the feet. For a whole body treat, do the same in a bathtub instead and soak for around 20 to 30 minutes!
Make a routine to spend at least 5 minutes in your personal space (your room) each evening after work, with dim lights, incense and your choice of music! This will definitely help to reduce stress and make you feel re-energized and ready for the next day!
Caution: Always be careful when burning candles and incense sticks. Never fall of to sleep while a candle is still burning! Always place your candles in a platter (glass or plastic) to prevent candle wax from messing your table.
